That is the day Sweet Escape opened their doors to the public. Oh how I wish I was back home in Saipan! I guess it’s a good thing though, because I’m trying to drop some pounds and I definitely would not be able to do that if I could stop by their shop every day.
Sweet Escape was started by sisters Erica S. Thornburgh and Jessica C. Sonoda. They are my cousins, and I love them to death (especially when they feed me sweets). Coming from a family of former restaurateurs, it is not surprising that they would make the decision to open up a shop of their own, specializing in cupcakes and other tantalizing treats that will satisfy any sweet tooth.
Although I can’t go to the shop, Erica was here in Seattle over the holidays and I was treated to some of their cupcakes. The Strawberry Utopia had me salivating while they were baking, they weren’t even ready yet (yes, I gained several pounds over the holidays – thank you Erica!). A strawberry cupcake with strawberry buttercream icing. Whoever invented buttercream needs to be given an award. I also got to try the Cruzin Karamelu – another blissfully sweet confection. It’s hard to put into words how good these were, so I’m going to share some pictures.
